Gateway to Guanacaste
About Liberia
Liberia is the capital of Guanacaste province and the main entry point for the region via Daniel Oduber International Airport — the second-largest international airport in Costa Rica. Known as the 'White City' (Ciudad Blanca) for its whitewashed colonial buildings, Liberia has a charming historic center along Calle Real that rewards a short walk.
Most visitors use Liberia as a transit point, but the city deserves at least a half-day. It sits within easy reach of Rincon de la Vieja National Park (45 minutes), Santa Rosa National Park, and the beaches of Guanacaste. The dry season here is long and reliable, making it one of the sunniest corners of Costa Rica.
