Río Celeste Guided Hike

A full-day guided hike through Tenorio Volcano National Park to the famous Río Celeste — the bright blue river created where two volcanic streams meet.

Your full-day tour begins with a scenic drive from La Fortuna to Tenorio Volcano National Park. At the park, you start a 7 km (approximately 4 miles) hike that passes the Río Celeste waterfall, the Tenorio lookout point, and the Blue Lagoon — a great place for taking pictures. Further along, the Borbollones (small geysers). The final destination is the Teñideros — where two crystal-clear streams merge and their different volcanic minerals react, changing the water's color to a beautiful bright, light blue. This is the result of a chemical reaction between two merging rivers. After the hike, a delicious lunch is served at the park entrance.
