Cahuita National Park & Banana Plantation Tour
Cahuita
About this experience
Flat coastal trail through Cahuita National Park, combined with a visit to a banana plantation where you follow the crop from cultivation to export.
Cahuita National Park was created in 1970 to protect the country's largest coral reef. The park also shelters tropical moist forest, swamp forest, and marshland. Upon arrival you walk a flat, shady trail along the shoreline — approximately 45 minutes — where monkeys, sloths, iguanas, toucans, colorful frogs, and many other species are common to see. The tour also includes a stop at a banana plantation, where your guide explains the crop, harvesting, processing, packing, and exportation. Costa Rica is the second largest banana producer in the world, with 80% of plantations in Limón province. You travel to the park from the port by air-conditioned motor bus, a one-hour scenic drive through quaint villages.
